Surgery

Here's by baby on Day 1 & 2 of her surgery (obviously out of order!) We got up early on Wednesday morning and got in the car, Papa came over to keep Ethan for us who was still sound asleep in his bed. Emma's surgery was scheduled for 9:30 so we had to be in Brandon by 8:30. Once we got there Emma of course realized we were at the Dr's office and wasn't too sure about the whole thing. She did SO good though, our little brave girl! We were sent back to pre-op around 9:00 am and within 5 minutes they were whisking her away down the hallway. I had done really good up until that point and then I totally lost it! The staff however was WONDERFUL and the nurse poked her head back into the family waiting room they had placed us in about 2 minutes later and told us she was already asleep from the anesthesia. Dr. Orobello came in about 12 minutes later and said that Emma had done great and everything went very well. We will wait about 10 days for her pathology to come back on the sinus swab but the tonsils and adenoids were now out with very little bleeding. On to the recovery room we went. For me, that was the hardest part. Emma had some trouble coming out of the anesthesia and was pretty combative for about 45 minutes or so but we finally got her calmed down and able to drink some fluids. We were on our way home by 12:45 and she was glad to be going "home sweet home" she also wanted to know if Ethan would be there when we got home, she was missing her little buddy! :)

Overall she's done pretty well with the recovery process. She tends to be a little of a "drama queen" as we so lovingly call her, but overall she's doing well. We started weaning her off the pain meds yesterday and onto just regular tylenol, today (Sunday) she's doing well other than a bad cough. The surgeon told us this is normal as she had so much "gunk" up in her sinuses and now that her tonsils and adenoids are out it will drain. Emma is enjoying all the attention, popsicles, chocolate pudding, and jello she can stand....the child will totally be confused when she wakes up one day next month and asks Mommy for chocolate pudding for breakfast and I don't go running to get it for her! :) We will wait for a call back from the office on her sinus swab which they said would take 7-10 days to culture, if she needs further medication to knock out the sinus problem we will go there, otherwise the surgery should have helped a lot and we should see a noticeable difference in how much she gets sick. We are SO thankful that everything went well and that God protected our little girl during the surgery.

On a side note, this seems to be the month of surgeries for Alex's family. Please continue to pray for all of our extended family as Gabe (our nephew - Alex's sisters son) will be having surgery on March 19th and Angela (Sister N Law) will be having surgery on March 24th. Isabella (Niece - Angela's daughter) will also be scheduled for her pull through surgery here in the coming months. We are praying for safety and healing for all those with surgeries and praying that everyone will be on the mend and healing fast so we can hopefully enjoy a stress free summer!
